Ed Edwards

General Manager

An ex-professional golfer, Ed Edwards has vast international experience in managing and establishing high end golf resorts throughout the world including in the United Arab Emirates, Portugal, Ireland, Egypt, Oman, Saudi Arabia, the United States and Qatar

Ed attended Methodist University in North Carolina on a golf scholarship and holds a BSc in Business Administration. On graduation, he joined Marriott Golf International and held senior Management positions at the JW Marriott Golf Club in Cairo as well as various other Marriott-managed golf clubs in the United States. He then assumed the role of Managing Director of a golf management company that oversaw several golf management agreements and consultancies worldwide.

More recently Ed was the General Manager of Emaar Hospitality Group's Leisure Division, overseeing the operations of The Address Montgomerie Dubai and Arabian Ranches Golf Clubs, The Dubai Polo and Equestrian Club, The Dubai Yacht Club and four HAYYA Fitness & Leisure Clubs. In addition, he was responsible for the expansion of Emaar's golf properties worldwide.

Ed joined Qatar International Golf Club in 2012 during the early stages of the project. He is responsible for developing and implementing all pre-opening activities required to ensure a successful transition from development to operations, whilst evolving relationships, strategies and initiatives to bring to life the most innovative golf development in recent years.

 

 

 

  

Mohammed Al Naimi

Deputy General Manager

Mohammed holds a Higher Diploma in Physical Education from University of Semmelweis Budapest, Hungary, a Diploma in Special Education from Qatar University, and Bachelor of Science in Education Major in Physical Education from University of Qatar.

Mohammed held various positions as Stage Manager, Competition Manager for Gymnastics in the Asian Games in Doha, General Secretary of the Asian Gymnastics Union, Executive Director and General Secretary of Qatar Gymnastics Federation and became part of the organizing team of an International Event – the Qatar Modern Pentathlon: Champion of Champions where he was awarded the Thanaa Award.

He then assumed the role of Recreation Services Manager at Qatar Foundation where he was responsible for raising the profile and standards of Recreation Services before being promoted to the role of Director of Community Affairs in Qatar Foundation, where he was instrumental in delivering comprehensive and easily accessible recreation and sports services, growing participation levels and delivering comprehensive recreation and sports services to the Education City community. He also led the Qatar Foundation National Sport Day which was awarded by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Qatar.

Mohammed joined Qatar International Golf Club and as the Deputy General Manager for Qatar International Golf Club. Mohammed has the responsibility to provide leadership and management to the various departmental teams, generate knowledge, interest and support of the project amongst internal and external stakeholders, contract local partners and sponsors, assist in the development and execution of strategic and business planning and execute all objectives to ensure the golf club is ready for operations on completion of construction. 

Rhys Beecher

Director of Instruction

Rhys hails from Carmarthen, Wales and honed his golfing skills at St. Pierre and The Celtic Manor Golf Clubs.

Rhys played competitive amateur golf within Wales representing the county of Gwent as a junior, followed by the county of Dorset whilst at University. At University, Rhys represented the Bournemouth Varsity team and was a BUSA medal winner whilst reading for his degree in Sports Management (Golf).

Rhys turned Professional at the age of 21 commencing his PGA foundation degree at The Celtic Manor Resort, Wales. Host to the Ryder Cup 2010. Through his time at The Celtic Manor Rhys completed the John Bruno ‘Pure 4 Golf’ foundation course specializing in Psychology, Fitness and Nutrition in order to become a more rounded coach.

Following completing his PGA coaching examinations with distinction, Rhys has further accreditation from the Hank Haney Pro Coaching Program of which he is a Certified Instructor, the Titleist Performance Institute and TrackMan University respectively and AimPoint certification.

Prior to joining Qatar International Golf Club in 2015, Rhys was Director of Instruction at The Address Montgomerie Dubai, where he was responsible for the growth and development of one of the region’s busiest and highest respected academies where his achievements included the creation of a ‘junior academy’ and an Emirati Ladies Programme, Since joining Qatar International Golf Club, Rhys has been working to ‘grow the game of golf’ within Qatar by providing accredited training courses to Physical Educators in an effort to instigate golf within school education curriculums.

Darren Smith

Golf Course Superintendent

Darren an Australian Citizen originally from New Zealand moved to Australia in the late 1980’s where he gained his Golf Course Management Qualifications and from there has honed his skills on both pre and post opening of golf courses in Australia. Having moved to the Middle East in 2001 his experience now spans nearly 15 years in the region.

Darren spent 11 years with EMAAR PROPERTIES PJSC, Arabian Ranches Golf & Polo Club Dubai, where he was working as the Emaar Area Golf Course Manager overseeing the construction component for their international and local properties throughout the UAE, KSA and Egypt. He was also tasked with the responsibility of the Landscaping Division for Emaar Address Hotels during his time with Emaar.

Darren joined Qatar International Golf Club in 2013 during the early stages of the project and during the construction period will be responsible for overseeing the golf course construction and ensuring the protection of the owners’ asset, before taking over the maintenance, operation and management of the golf course once operational.
